In March of 2006, Roger Burnham and Marcia Leatham (Blennylips Bonaire) went to Turkey to see the total solar eclipse of the sun. As is usual for Marcia and I, we made a DVD of the trip, that we hope you will enjoy.

Blennylips Cayman Trip. This site just opened up and it was the first time the Ocean Frontiers staff got a look. We all took our chances, but we found it disappointing: Very little hard coral (lots of soft coral), lots of algae and few fish. The wreck is a wreck...scattered about the reef.
Published: Mon, 14 May 2007 19:39:49 GMT

Blennylips Cayman Trip. First of two dives with Ocean Frontiers on the east side. Similar terrain as the north walls. Stupid fish trick: Sprinkle a bit of sand on a Sea Cucumber and watch the acrobatics start! Thanks for showing us that!
Published: Mon, 14 May 2007 18:29:49 GMT

Blennylips Cayman Trip. This time we dive with Tech Divers on the famous Turtle Reef, adjacent to the old turtle farm. Lots of Tarpon and several Southern Stingrays combined with interesting terrain to make this a must-do Cayman dive.
Published: Sun, 13 May 2007 21:11:26 GMT

Blennylips Cayman Trip. A new site, recently opened and what a beauty! Gorgeous hard and soft coral formations. We saw a pair of pirouetting butterflyfish, a shy stingray, several Diamond Blennies, a turtle that buzzed the camera twice and a wounded ocean triggerfish.
Published: Sun, 13 May 2007 11:31:19 GMT

Blennylips Cayman Trip. A very eventful dive! It started with a gliding Peacock Flounder, then a dramatic swim through to find a large turtle and a pair of French Angelfish feeding and posing with Marcia and ended with an encounter with a feisty lobster.
Published: Sat, 12 May 2007 20:20:14 GMT

Blennylips Cayman Trip. As this was the second dive of the day, we stayed above the wall drop-off. Memorable highlights include a large moray out for a swim and a large lobster out for a walk.

Blennylips Cayman Trip. Our second dive on this wall. Very spectacular, but the camera does not do it justice. Saw a large Moray Eel out cruising and another Eagle Ray that made two passes at us.
Published: Fri, 11 May 2007 21:28:06 GMT

Blennylips Cayman Trip. Some of the prettiest hard and soft coral of any of our Cayman dives. Fish highlights were beautiful Yellow Phase and Bicolor Coneys, a Porcupinefish, a Shy and Barred Hamlet and a very pale blotchy Blue Tang being cleaned.
Published: Fri, 11 May 2007 18:06:03 GMT

Blennylips Cayman Trip. Site and plaque dedicated to famed Cayman freediver Penny Ventura. Spectacular black coral down deep. Fish highlights were a maurading Tang Gang and the always odd looking Cowfish.
Published: Fri, 11 May 2007 10:02:38 GMT

Blennylips Cayman Trip. Seventh dive of the trip. We saw more fish than any previous dive, almost like back on Bonaire: Yellowhead Jawfish, Nassau Groupers, a small school of Chub, an Indigo Hamlet and a very nice French Angelfish.
Published: Thu, 10 May 2007 17:16:03 GMT

Blennylips Cayman Trip. The site is named for the part of the wall that actually forms an overhang. All the bubbles rising from the deep divers against the wall is quite a sight! We were accompanied by a curious turtle for a while.
Published: Thu, 10 May 2007 11:01:06 GMT

Blennylips Cayman Trip. Second dive of the day and the fifth of the trip. Another shallower reef along the sheer dropoff. We saw scads of lobsters and one unconcerned turtle passing through.
Published: Wed, 09 May 2007 20:40:42 GMT

Blennylips Cayman Trip. Another spectacular wall, with swim-throughs that are almost tunnels. We saw one cruising Eagle Ray in the distance and lots of Fairy Basslets.
Published: Wed, 09 May 2007 15:24:15 GMT

Blennylips Cayman Trip. Second dive of the day where we stick to the shallower part of the reef. We were treated to a squadron of five Eagle Rays cruising along the top of the wall...Magnificent!

Blennylips Cayman Trip. Our first dive on the north sound wall with
7 Mile Watersports. Spectacular! Along the wall top are a series of deep canyons, some of them almost tunnels, that open out onto the sheer deep drop of the wall. Nice soft corals. Fish highlight was an Ocean Triggerfish.

Blennylips Bonaire dive log video. Got in a bit north of the usual and went up to the marina entrance. Like a lot of dives in this area, we saw a lot of interesting things. Best was a pink Longlure Frogfish sitting on a pink sponge.

This was last month in Dec 2006 at Tori's reef. We were treated to several eagle rays at 22 ft feeding in the sand as we started our dive. Many trunkfish swarmed around looking for leftover snacks.

Maskarada is sort of a Caribbean Carnival crossed with Bonaire traditions going back to the slave days and held in the first week of the new year. These travelling bands visit neighborhood homes and entertain in return for drinks of rum.

Announcing BonWiki, a Wikipedia style site for all things Bonaire
Update: Please read the press release at Bonaire Insider.
Blennylips Bonaire is please to announce
the creation of BonWiki; a place to
collect an encyclopedia of information about our favorite island.
If you are unfamiliar with the concept of a wiki, read the
Wikipedia article about wikis.
This wiki is integrated with Google Maps to allow users to tie information to a specific map location. Readers can then browse the maps, clicking on markers to see what is there.
As with all wikis, this will be a creation of the community. I've set the framework in place and expect to sit back and let you all take over, while continuing to handle administrative and software issues.
Any and all are invited to particpate. The only requirement is that you register with a real email address and then follow the directions in an email sent back to you to confirm your address. This works much like BonaireTalk in that your email address is never shared with anyone and a user has the option of enabling blind emails to another registered user without disclosing your real address.
There are no bans on self promotion or advertising. If you have a Bonaire business, please join up and create a page for that business.
You can include photos and links to external sites for more information.
Keep in mind that like all wikis, your content can and probably will be edited mercilessly by others. This is one way quality is achieved in such a seemingly chaotic process. I've required registration before you can edit in the hopes of cutting down on the vandalism that wikis seem to attract (though not a big
problem).
BonWiki is powered by the MediaWiki framework.
